Commure acquires Memora Health

Commure, an AI-powered healthcare software company, continues its acquisition spree, this time acquiring Memora Health, a digital care navigation platform spun out of Harvard Innovation Labs. This follows Commure's recent purchases of Athleas (revenue cycle management and remote patient monitoring) and Augmedix (ambient scribing), signaling a clear ambition to become a one-stop platform for healthcare organizations. Memora, backed by Andreessen Horowitz and General Catalyst, specializes in adaptive care navigation, supporting patients and care teams with personalized communication. Commure CEO Tanay Tandon emphasized the acquisition's role in streamlining workflows and enhancing patient care. With Memora onboard, Commure now integrates patient engagement, revenue cycle automation, and intelligent workflows—poised to power over 3 million physician appointments this year. Google’s Verily is undergoing a pivot

Google’s Verily is refocusing on AI in healthcare in 2025, while also planning to raise more capital and break up with Google to become independent. The company aims to provide tech infrastructure for healthcare firms, including tools for AI model development, data storage, and app creation. Verily plans to raise additional capital next year, following its $1B investment led by Alphabet in 2022. Shifting from stop-loss insurance revenue, it is pursuing high-margin opportunities like AI for drug discovery and health coaching apps. Key initiatives include relaunching its Lightpath app with AI coaches for diabetes and hypertension. Verily’s pivot aligns with internal streamlining, cutting projects, and costs, as it partners with organizations like the NIH to meet growing healthcare AI demands. Given its scale and resources, Verily could emerge as a really interesting player in the space. (link)

House AI policy recommendations

The House Bipartisan Task Force on Artificial Intelligence closed the year with a 273-page report outlining a roadmap for advancing U.S. leadership in AI innovation. The healthcare section spotlighted AI’s transformative potential in drug development, burnout-reducing ambient AI, diagnostics (targeting $100B in annual error costs), and population health. While David Sacks, the AI “Czar,” may favor minimal regulation, the task force recommended guardrails in data quality, privacy, interoperability, transparency, and liability. It also urged Congress to define clear liability standards, boost NIH funding for healthcare AI, and develop reimbursement models that reflect AI’s impact on care delivery. With AI evolving faster than policy, 2025 will mark a pivotal chapter in navigating its regulatory and innovation future. (link)
